Why a home group?

I was thinking this morning about the craziness of having a home group in Leaside which now has members from Leaside, Scarborough, Etobico, Richmond Hill and Stouffville! "Why would folk choose to travel so far to be in a group?" I laughed. "Why do I?" I thought of all the reasons why I want to go - the friends, the laughter, the Bible study, the prayer, the love and support, the normal people, the safe place, the honesty, the transformation in folk - in short the fellowship. And then I thought of how my life would be so much poorer without these wonderful folk in my life.

Being in a home group requires effort and commitment, it sometimes requires sacrifice and initially it can take time to make the connections. If it is our intention to become Christ-centred, fully devoted followers of Jesus then I firmly believe that it is vital for everyone to take seriously the commands in Hebrews 10:24-25, "Let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another...".

The home groups are central and vital to both our maturity and the maturity of the whole church.
